First of all, thank you for signing up to my newsletter. I hate being bombarded with emails, so it means a lot that you are happy to be bombarded with mine. Why should you stay subscribed? Here’s the answer (but also, you are part of the answer). This newsletter is for you if you love books, and are interested in the business of making them. If you have a mind that questions. If you believe there are ways of being successful that don’t require selling out. If, like me, you want short reads, and not too often. There will be a mix of:
Opinions. About the industry, how it really works, and how it could work better.
Tips for writers. A treasure trove of insider info taken from my 15 years publishing fiction.
Advice. Candid answers to questions from you about your job, particularly around mental health and finding your happy place.
Book reviews. Amazing books I’ve read that you probably won’t have heard of (but should have).
Writers to watch. Excerpts from the brilliant yet-to-be-published books I have been working on.
This first edition is none of that. It’s just a hello and to ask for your help. If you are a writer, send me the questions nobody else can or will answer. If you’re a publishing professional then do the same. I will answer them honestly and keep your anonymity. If you are a publicist and have a book you think is amazing but it’s not getting the attention it deserves, tell me. If there’s anything else you want me to cover, tell me that as well. I am at katyloftus@gmail.com.
Thank you again, and see you soon for my first actual post, where I will be tackling a question I get asked all the time: should I quit my job and go freelance? Plus advice on how to choose an agent (not just find one). And some other juicy bookish stuff.
Katy

HI Katy, I just had to sign up having read your guest post on Emma Gannon's - just the phrase "To be at the top would mean being liked, admired, looked after. Unassailable." made me stop in my tracks and then read it again. and again. I'd never thought of climbing the corporate ladder like that, but of course that's what it's about (amongst some other things). I'm really looking to reading more of your thoughts and reflections.
I'll be here for it alllllllll
